In order to participate on an AWE Program, you must
comply with the following criteria:
You must:
- be aged 18-28, preferably at least one month before your US departure
date.
- be available to work in the U.S. for at least 9 weeks/camp programme
and depending on employer for applicants on SWT program, usually around
3 months.
- speak fluent English and have good communication skills.
- live in, or be able to travel to one of the participating countries for
a personal interview with an appointed AWE Representative.
- provide 2 verifiable references, supportive of the position for which
you are applying. Note: Special conditions may apply to AWE returning
applicants; please see How to Apply for more details.
- hold an international passport and provide a copy of the 'personal details'
page from that passport when submitting your application to the AWE Representative.
- provide a satisfactory Medical and Police Report and, if resident in
the UK/Eire, agree to AWE undertaking a background check at our expense.
- have a valid email address throughout the time that your application
is active.
- be able to pay the required fees (AWE only accepts payment in US$, unless
you reside in the UK/Ireland where UK sterling is acceptable)
- agree to attend an orientation in your home country before departure
for the U.S.
- have every intention of returning to your home country at the conclusion
of the AWE Program.
- be able to provide supportive documentation as proof of your intention
to return when making your J-1 visa application.
- complete on-line the AWE Application Form, sign the application form signifying your agreement for your application
to be considered in accordance with the current AWE Terms and Conditions.
- never have been convicted of a crime or offence of a sexual nature or
one that was related to drugs or violence.
- be enthusiastic, adaptable and flexible - in addition to having a good
sense of humor.

Summer Work Travel (SWT) applicants must:
- be a bona fide full-time student (attending for at least 18 hours per
week) at the time of application.
- have evidence of registration for a full-time course of study for
the current semester.
- provide a supportive reference from a previous employer for whom you
worked within the previous 12 months prior to your application. (This
employment may have been full or part-time, paid or voluntary).
Counselor applicants must:
- be available to depart for the U.S. by June 15 - those available earlier
have a greater chance of Placement.
- have an excellent level of skill in a high demand activity and an internationally
recognized teaching/coaching award.
- have recent, previous relevant experience of working with groups of youngsters
in a similar setting.
- be a good communicator.
- have a flexible, resourceful and adaptable nature.
- have an ability to lead, motivate and inspire youngsters and co-workers.
Special Needs Counselors must:
- be available to depart for the US by June 15 - those available earlier
have a greater chance of Placement.
- be able to demonstrate a calm, caring nature.
- be dedicated to working with challenged populations.
- be willing to work with both children and adults with a wide range of
disabilities.
- have a general level of skill in a range of activities.
- preferably have recent, relevant experience of working with challenged
groups.
- be able to provide a reference from that previous work.
- be a good communicator.
- have a flexible, resourceful and adaptable nature.
- have an ability to lead, motivate and inspire the campers.
Camp Support Staff must:
- be available to depart for the U.S. by June 15 - those available earlier
have a greater chance of Placement.
- be a bona fide full-time student (attending for at least 18 hours per

the current semester.
